10 Arrested in Jammu Kashmir for Gambling, Drug Peddling

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested six gamblers in Awantipora and four drug peddlers in Budgam and Handwara, Srinagar seizing stake money, playing cards, and contraband substances.

A police spokesperson in a statement said, “Acting on specific information, a police team from Awantipora raided a gambling site in Bahu Awantipora, arresting six individuals identified as Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, Ab Hameed Khan, Mohd Afzal Sheikh, Wazarqt Ahmad Dhobi, Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat, and Manzoor Ahmad Bhat. Officers seized ₹500 in stake money and playing cards from their possession. A case has been registered under FIR No. 21/2025, and an investigation is underway.”

Meanwhile, in Budgam, police raided the residence of Saqlain Mushtaq in Batpora Chadoora following a court-issued search warrant. “The search, conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, led to the recovery of 545 grams of charas-like substance, 230 grams of grinded charas-like substance, and 33.10 kg of semi-grinded cannabis leaves. The accused was arrested, and a case was registered.”

“In Handwara, police intercepted Ashiq Ahmad Shah at Baghatpora Crossing and recovered 8.93 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession. Another individual, Bilal Ahmad Najar, was arrested at Badkote Handwara with 63 grams of charas-like substance,” the statement reads.

In Srinagar Police arrested Farooq Ahmad Lone, a resident of Khanmoh, after recovering a substantial quantity of narcotics during a search at a checkpoint in Khanmoh.
