Jammu 12th May: To improve legal writing of budding lawyers, Aryans College of Law, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh organized a webinar on “Legal Drafting: A Crucial skill”. Mrs. Maheshwari Mohan, Founder, Co- Draft, Academy of law, Chennai was the keynote speaker. Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group presided over the Webinar.
Maheshwari while interacting with the students said that in the legal field, we must be able to transfer our thoughts to writing in a way that correctly interprets what we’re thinking.
Language is the principal tool of the law profession. Judges, lawyers, legislators and others use words to persuade, inform, advocate and argue. That’s why good writing skills are an essential component of any legal practitioner’s toolbox, she discussed.
She further said that although mastering legal drafting takes time and practice, superior writing skills are essential to success and you can take steps to improve yours. While drafting, Remember Your Audience, Organize Your Writing, Be Concise, Use Action Words, Avoid Passive Voice & Edit Ruthlessly, she explained.
While answering the students questions she said that Legal writing takes practice but you can learn a great deal by simply reading documents that others, who have mastered legal writing, have written. The best advice for improving your legal writing skills is to practice every day.  The more you write, the more you’ll improve your legal writing skills, she advised.
