Release Mirwaiz in wake of sacred month: Imam Hai
Srinagar, Feb 26 (KNO): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar Vice President Moulana Ahmad Sayeed Naqshbandi Imam Hai while addressing the faithful during Friday prayers at the historic Jama Masjid expressed concern over the prevailing deteriorating situation in Jammu & Kashmir especially the continued detention of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq who has been under house arrest for the last one-and-a-half years, and demanded his immediate release.
In his address, Imam Hai as per a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) strongly condemned the incarceration of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir and curbs on his religious, social and other activities especially preventing him from delivering Friday sermon at the Valley’s largest religious and spiritual place, Jama Masjid Srinagar, the pulpit of which continued to be silent for the last 81 weeks.
He said usurping the basic rights of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir and the people through military might are extremely unfortunate and condemnable.
Imam Hai said the ongoing Rajab-ul-Murajab is a sacred month in which the Messenger of Allah Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) was bestowed with miracles among which the Me’raj-un-Nabi (SAW) was historic and revolutionary.
He said since it has been a centuries-old tradition of the Mirwaizeen-e-Kashmir to organize special programmes and Majaalis wherein they would shed light on the importance and significance of Rajab-ul-Murajab and Me’raj-un-Nabi (SAW).
Imam Hai while taking a dig at the authorities said there is a limit to everything and the continuous house arrest of Kashmir’s topmost religious leader is beyond comprehension in all ways.
He demanded immediate release of the Mirwaiz Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq in view of the ongoing sacred month and Me’raj-un-Nabi (SAW) so that he performs all his responsibilities as the Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir.
On the occasion, people present in the Masjid expressed strong resentment over the continued detention of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir and demanded immediate release of their beloved leader and thousands of political, social and civil society leaders and youth who are languishing in jails—(KNO)
