Kathua and Baramulla Incidents Expose Lack of Accountability: Mirwaiz
Srinagar, Feb 7 (KNS): Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly condemned the recent death and killing of two individuals in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing them to rights violations and the absence of accountability.
In a statement, Mirwaiz expressed deep anguish over the death of a Gujjar youth, Makhan Din, in Kathua, reportedly by suicide after alleged custodial torture, and the killing of a truck driver, Wasim Malla, in Sopore, who was allegedly shot by security forces. He termed both incidents as highly disturbing and condemnable.
“The unfortunate saga of extra-judicial killings and human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir continues as the perpetrators are never brought to book,” Mirwaiz stated.
He emphasized that such incidents would persist unless accountability was established and justice delivered.
He further remarked that arbitrary arrests and alleged rights violations had become a routine in the region, adding to the distress of the local population. He called for an end to what he described as a cycle of impunity and urged authorities to ensure justice for the victims. (KNS)
