Delhi High Court to Deliver Verdict on Er Rashid’s Custody Parole Plea Today

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court is set to pronounce its order at 2:30 PM today on the plea filed by jailed Member of Parliament, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, seeking custody parole to attend Parliament.

Rashid, who won the Baramulla Lok Sabha elections, has been in jail in connection with an alleged militant-funding case. His plea argues that as an elected representative, he has the constitutional right to attend parliamentary proceedings.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which arrested Rashid in 2019, has opposed the plea, citing security concerns and the nature of charges against him. The case has drawn significant political and legal attention, as it raises questions about the rights of jailed lawmakers to participate in legislative proceedings.

All eyes are now on the High Court’s verdict, which will determine whether Engineer Rashid will be allowed to step out of prison under custody to fulfill his parliamentary duties.
