Extortion Case Cracked: Accused Arrested, ₹20 Lakh in Stolen Property Recovered

 

JAMMU, Feb 7: Police in Jammu’s Sarwal area here claimed to have solved an extortion case by arresting one individual and recovering from his possession the stolen property worth Rs 20 lakh.

A police official said that one Shudhama Sharma of New Plot reported that an unknown person entered his premises, threatened his son with a sharp weapon (toka), and stole 175 grams of gold jewellery and Rs 2 lakh in cash, totalling a value of Rs 20 lakh.

On this, he said a case FIR number 17/2025 under the relevant sections of the law was registered at Bakshi Nagar Police Station and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, he said, the police team arrested one Rahul Sharma of Ratnal, Bishnah, who confessed to his involvement in the crime.

During sustained questioning, Sharma revealed the location of the stolen items, said the police official.

Accordingly, he said, police team recovered 160 grams of gold jewellery, 200 grams of silver and Rs 1.7 lakh in cash, all valued at Rs 20 lakh from the possession of the accused.

The police official added that a toka has also been seized from the accused.
