Jammu, Aug 31 (KB): A young girl was killed, and many others were injured in a road accident that occurred at Kunjwani Chowk in the city, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir Bulletin (KB) that a speeding matador collided with a car coming from the opposite direction, resulting in the death of one young girl and injuries to eight others, who were immediately admitted to Government Medical College Jammu.

He said the deceased was identified as Surbhi Kumari (18), daughter of Ashwani Kumar, a resident of Jallo Chak, Gangyal.

The eight others injured were identified as Saina (16), daughter of Mohd Rafiq, a resident of Kunjwani; Goutam Sharma (25), son of late Manoj Kumar, a resident of Chatha; Akesh Mohan, son of the late Tilak Raj Mohan, a resident of Afgana Mohalla, Panjtirthi; Muskan Sharma, daughter of Rohi Dass, a resident of Ratnu Chak, Jammu; Sarita, daughter of Upinder Ram, a resident of Dhyansar, Bari Brahmana; Nisha, daughter of Durga Swansi, a resident of Jharkhand and currently residing in Dhyansar, Bari Brahmana; Sumit Kumar, son of Mulkh Raj, a resident of Doda and currently residing in Bari Brahmana; and Shivani (14), daughter of Raj Kumar, a resident of Kunjwani.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses stated that the matador was being driven at a very high speed, which caused the accident.

Police have initiated an investigation.—(KB)
