Imran Ansari Accuses Mirwaiz Kashmir of CM-Level Security, Criticizes Ban on Shab-e-Barat Prayers at Jamia Masjid
Srinagar, 17 February : Jammu & Kashmir People’s Conference senior leader Imran Raza Ansari has strongly criticized the authorities decision to restrict congregational prayers at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat. Ansari termed the move unjustified and also pointed a critical finger at Mirwaiz Kashmir, Molvi Umar Farooq, questioning his role and the facilities provided to him by the government. imran
Speaking to the media, Ansari said, “Let me tell you something. Regarding the security grid at Jamia Masjid, it is being said that some input was received concerning Mirwaiz’s protection. Mirwaiz Sahib has been provided complete security, similar to that of a Chief Minister. However, there may have been some concerns. But this is not the right approach.”
He further raised concerns over the rights of worshippers being compromised due to these measures, stating, “If Mirwaiz Sahib felt that his presence could lead to a lockdown of the Jamia Masjid, he should have addressed the people from his home. Moreover, Mirwaiz Sahib should have instructed the government that if he felt his life was at risk while fulfilling other responsibilities, he could address the public via video link or other means. I know that Mirwaiz Sahib has good relations, and if he felt his presence posed a threat, he should have ensured that at least the people were allowed to gather, and he could have addressed them remotely.”

“For further details, you can ask Mirwaiz Sahib why and how he was stopped, despite being provided security and other facilities.” Ansari further added
Notably, the Jammu and Kashmir Police imposed a ban on congregational night prayers at Jamia Masjid on Shab-e-Barat, one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar. The police also placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest. imran
Reacting to the restrictions, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the move as “unfortunate” and stated that it reflects a “lack of confidence in the law and order machinery.”
