Srinagar, Aug 11 (KB): A major political development in the state took place when prominent doctor of Karnah, Dr. Naseer Ahmad Awan, joined the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC).
The official announcement to this effect was made today at the party headquarters here in Srinagar, where all key figures, including PC President Mr. Sajad Lone and General Secretary Molvi Imran Raza Ansari, were present.
This move by Dr. Awan is likely to increase the influence and strategic positioning of JKPC in the regional area.
The induction of Dr. Awan into the party fold is perceived as a major fillip for the party in view of the prevailing political changes.
Concurrently, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari has also expressed apprehensions regarding the forthcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
He welcomed the recent visit of the Election Commission but assailed the electoral process, saying that such elections, in the absence of a complete restoration of statehood and powers, would be “a farce and just an eyewash.”
It means the ongoing debate regarding the political status of the region and how it requires substantive reforms in matters of governance.
These are the developments that underline the changing political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir and emphasize two critical issues, statehood and electoral integrity.— (KB)
