Srinagar, Sep 19 (KB): Recalling a time when visiting Srinagar’s Lal Chowk and raising the national flag was fraught with danger, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke about the changes in Jammu and Kashmir.
He highlighted the region’s transformation from years of unrest to a more peaceful and prosperous environment.
Addressing a gathering at Srinagar’s Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thundered in Srinagar’s markets, we now see the celebrations of both Eid and Diwali. He pointed to the increasing normalcy in the region. “The selfish politics of three families made Kashmiri Hindus homeless, and our Sikh families were also oppressed,” he said, as per the news agency—Kashmir Bulletin (KB), as further criticizing the dynastic politics that dominated the region for decades.
Focusing on democracy, the Prime Minister said the efforts made by the BJP government to restore faith in the electoral process. He said, “The youth here have developed confidence that only their vote can bring about real change.”
Speaking on education, Modi lauded the progress over the last five years, mentioning that 50,000 students who had dropped out of school are now back in classrooms. “We have started pre-primary classes in 15,000 schools, benefiting over 1.5 lakh children,” he said, adding that medical, engineering, and political science colleges are also being established.
“Every force conspiring against Jammu and Kashmir must be defeated. I will not let another generation of ours be destroyed at the hands of these three families,” he said.
Notably, a large turnout was seen at Srinagar’s SK Stadium as people from different districts gathered to listen to the Prime Minister.—(KB)
