JDU President backs Sugra Barkati, Vows to secure Sarjan Barkati’s release

Srinagar, Sep 13 (KB): JDU President GM Shaheen has extended full support to the candidature of Sugra Barkati, daughter of Sarjan Barkati, a prominent figure who has been imprisoned since 2016.

He promised to help in securing the release of Sarjan Barkati and said full legal and moral assistance would be provided to the family.

GM Shaheen underlined in his statement, as per news agency—Kashmir Bulletin (KB), that the JDU would leave no stone unturned to see the justice delivered to Sarjan Barkati and slammed the regional parties with bigger size for keeping aloof from the case.

The interference of the JDU president can bring the focus again on the protracted detention of Barkati and the efforts for his release may get momentum once again.

The support by Shaheen brings into focus JDU’s commitment to the defense of individual rights in Kashmir; at the same time, the party is positioning itself as an advocate for people who have been marginalised by mainstream political forces.— (KB)
