Journalist Duo Teams Up With Locals to Revive Muniwar Stream in Anantnag
Anantnag, Feb 19 (KB): A once-polluted stream running through the heart of Muniwar village in Anantnag is witnessing a fresh breath of life, thanks to a dedicated community initiative led by a journalist duo from the area.
Javed Dar, a National Award Winning Photojournalist, who has been at the forefront of the initiative told Kashmir Bulletin that for the past three Sundays, volunteers have been gathering along the stream’s banks, transforming what had become a garbage dumping site into a cleaner, more vibrant waterway. “The cleanup drive not only focused on waste removal but also emphasized raising awareness among villagers about the critical importance of protecting water bodies,” Dar said.

“Our stream was turning into a dumping ground, and we couldn’t stand by and watch. With the looming water crisis, preserving our natural water resources is crucial, not just for us but for our future generations,” said Dar.
The campaign has begun to change mindsets, with more locals realizing the environmental damage caused by dumping garbage near the stream. The initiative underscores that conservation is not solely the government’s responsibility but a shared duty of the entire community.

The organizers, which includes the Youth Foundation, are now calling on more residents to join the cause. “We need every hand we can get. Together, we can create lasting change and safeguard our precious water resources,” urged Dar’s fellow journalist Sajad Muniwardi.
As the cleanup efforts continue, hopes are high that the revitalized stream will become a symbol of community spirit and environmental stewardship in Muniwar. (KB)
