Katra-Kashmir train service likely to start in next 15 days: Report

Srinagar, February 10: The much-anticipated Vande Bharat train between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and Srinagar is set to launch within the next fifteen days, according to media reports. This will be the first semi-high-speed train for the Kashmir Valley and the third for the Union Territory (UT).

The train, which has already arrived in the region, has successfully completed its trial run. Operated and maintained by the Northern Railway (NR) zone, the orange-and-grey-colored train is expected to begin its commercial service soon.

A senior railway official told ETNOW that the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express is likely to be launched within the next fifteen days. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the train.

The fare for the journey has not been finalized yet, but it is expected to be around ₹1500-1600 for the AC Chair Car and ₹2200-2500 for the Executive Chair Car.

Designed for extreme cold conditions, this Vande Bharat train has special anti-freezing features. Unlike other Vande Bharat trains in the country, it is built to operate smoothly in temperatures as low as -20°C. It comes with advanced heating systems to ensure passenger comfort and uninterrupted operation.

The driver’s cabin features a heated windshield to prevent fogging or freezing, ensuring clear visibility.

Additionally, heating elements in the plumbing and bio-toilets prevent water from freezing, allowing essential systems to function even in harsh winter conditions.
