Makhan Din’s Death: AIP Demands Judicial Probe, Condemns ‘Harassment of Activists’

Kathua, Feb 25 (KB): Senior AIP leader and MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed launched a scathing attack on the authorities over the tragic death of 25-year-old Makhan Din in Billawar, Kathua.

Sheikh Khursheed visited the residence of the deceased to offer condolences on behalf of himself and incarcerated MP Er. Rashid, who had already condemned the incident in Parliament and demanded justice.

Speaking at the gathering, Sheikh Khursheed, as per news agency Kashmir Bulletin, reiterated AIP’s unwavering stand against human rights violations, declaring, “From Karnah to Kathua, AIP has zero tolerance for human rights abuses. Wherever such incidents have happened, AIP has raised its voice and taken to the streets to demand justice.”

Condemning the death of Makhan Din, Sheikh Khursheed stood in solidarity with the bereaved family and demanded a judicial probe into the circumstances leading to his suicide. He further urged the authorities to announce the investigation before the commencement of the Assembly’s Budget session.

“It is disturbing that not only the locals but also activists demanding justice for Makhan Din are being harassed with threats of being booked under the draconian PSA. AIP will never tolerate such intimidation,” he asserted.

Sheikh Khursheed demanded the immediate release of local youth who were detained before and during the custody of Makhan Din and urged the authorities to return confiscated mobile phones. He also condemned the continued harassment of locals through arbitrary summons and intimidation tactics, calling on the administration to put an end to such oppressive measures. (KB)
