Srinagar, Aug 15 (KB): As an administrative development, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Nalin Prabhat has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu & Kashmir.
This appointment is part of a series of decisions approved by the Competent Authority, marking a pivotal shift in the UT’s law enforcement leadership.
According to an order, a copy of which is with the Kashmir Bulletin (KB), “consequent upon joining the AGMUT Cadre on inter-cadre deputation from the Andhra Pradesh Cadre, Sh. Nalin Prabhat, IPS (AP:1992), is hereby posted to Jammu & Kashmir as Special Director General (SDG), Jammu & Kashmir Police, with immediate effect and until 30.09.2024.”
“Further, upon the retirement of Sh. R.R. Swain, IPS (AGMUT:1991) on 30.09.2024, Sh. Nalin Prabhat, IPS (AP:1992) is appointed as DGP, Jammu & Kashmir, w.e.f. 01.10.2024 and until further orders. This is issued with the approval of the Competent Authority,” reads the order.
Nalin Prabhat, an IPS officer of the 1992 batch from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, has been deputed to the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre and is set to assume his duties in Jammu & Kashmir.
Effective immediately, he will serve as the Special Director General (SDG) of Jammu & Kashmir Police, a position he will hold until September 30, 2024. The order also outlines that Prabhat will succeed R.R. Swain, IPS, an officer from the 1991 AGMUT cadre, who is scheduled to retire on September 30, 2024. Following Swain’s retirement, Prabhat will officially take over as the DGP of Jammu & Kashmir on October 1, 2024, and will continue in this role until further orders.—(KB)
