Ganderbal, Nov 26: The residents of Guzhama and its adjacent villages of this central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district are up in arms against the Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) for failing to complete the under-construction bridge since 2014.

Locals of the area while talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said there has been an inordinate delay in the completion of the Guzhama-Ganderbal bridge due to which they are facing immense problems.

According to them, the construction on the bridge was started in 2011 by JKPCC and it continued for four years. However, in 2014, the work was stopped, they said, adding that it was never resumed.

Altaf Ahmad Khan, a local of Guzhama said, “We fail to understand why the construction was left midway.”

The bridge, when completed, will significantly shorten the distance between several villages and help commuters reach their respective destinations in the shortest possible time, Khan said.

Altaf said the bridge was sanctioned after “hectic efforts and repeated pleas” to successive governments. “And after it was sanctioned, only pillars were constructed,” he said.

The locals said they wandered from pillar to post to get the work restarted but to no avail. They have appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and DC Ganderbal Shyambir to look into the matter and order work on the bridge for the better interest of the people of the district—(KNO)
