People in Panzath Qazigund Revive Age-Old Tradition, Distribute ‘Tehri’ to Seek Bountiful Rain

Mir Asif

Srinagar, Feb 26 (KB): In the backdrop of an extended dry spell in Kashmir, locals in Panzath, a village known for its five hundred springs in Qazigund, have turned to tradition, an age-old practice of making and distribution of ‘Tehri’ (Yellow/Fried rice), as a means of offering to pray for bountiful rain.

Haji Ali Mohammad Shah, a local elder, while talking to news agency Kashmir Bulletin, expressed the deeper spiritual significance of the act. “We are caught in sins, and this is a way of seeking forgiveness. We ask the Almighty to accept our prayers and bless us with abundant rain all across Kashmir valley,” the elderly person said.

“The tradition of making and distribution of Tehri has been passed down through generations, and this way we seek divine mercy from Allah,” he said.
