Pulwama police crack down on Illegal mining, seven arrested

Pulwama, Aug 11 (KB): As a decisive action against illegal mineral mining, Pulwama Police have apprehended seven individuals involved in the illicit extraction and transportation of minerals from the village of Kariamabad.

The authorities seized a significant number of vehicles including four tippers, a tractor, and two JCB machines.

“The arrested individuals include Bilal Ahmad Ganaie, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, Irfan Mushtaq, Tanveer Ahmad Mir, and Mohd Maqbool Mir—all residents of Kariamabad Pulwama. Additionally, Nawaz Ahmad Wagay of Baderhama Shopian and Aadil Ali Khan from Kakapora were also taken into custody,” reads a handout issue to the Kashmir Bulletin (KB).

It further reads, an FIR No. 164/2024 has been lodged at the Pulwama Police Station under pertinent legal provisions, and an investigation is underway.

“The Pulwama Police have reiterated their commitment to stringent enforcement against illegal mining activities and have urged community members to report any suspicious mining operations in their areas,” reads the statement.—(KB)
