Road in Hajin Along Jhelum River Embankment Caves In, Disrupts Power Supply to Local Populace

Srinagar, Feb 26 (KB): People of Hajin area in Bandipora are caught in a panicky situation as a major portion of road along embankment of Jhelum river in the area has caved in wake of fresh downpour, reports and locals said.

Reports reaching news agency Kashmir Bulletin, said that a major portion of the road in Sheikh Mohalla Hajin, has already withered away, even as cracks growing wider with each passing hour.

The worrying development has been a cause of concern for the local populace, who have been decrying official apathy towards the matter.

“The road had shown signs of dilapidation some months before, but no one has come forward to do anything, leaving us at the sheer mercy of Almighty,” said a group of locals, as per news agency Kashmir Bulletin.

“We have time and again asked the authorities and public representatives to intervene and get the road renovated, but to our misfortune no one has literally turned up to help us,” they said, adding, “May be they are awaiting some tragedy to occur, so that they visit us and get some mileage for themselves.”

“All what we demand for, is the immediate assessment of the damage and subsequent renovation of the road to save the public lives and property,” they said, while expressing hope that the authorities would be visiting the area soon.

The locals have also said that the power supply to the area has also got disrupted, throwing the normal life out of gear.

In a related development, authorities paying heed to the pleas of public, have reportedly visited the area and assured that necessary works on the road will be taken up within next two days. (KB)
