Amid Rusia’s attack on Ukraine, top sources from the Ministry of Civil Aviation told India Today that plans for the evacuation of nearly 16,000 Indians via Romania, Slovakia, Poland or Hungary can be made.
In the absence of air bubble arrangements with these countries, depending on the demand from the MEA, charter flights can be mounted. For this, MEA has to take it up with the embassies in those countries for necessary clearances for the landing of flights,” an official said.

We are working on it to sensitise the MEA,” the official added.

Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla in a press conference on Thursday said that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has dispatched Russian speaking officers to Kyiv and neighbouring countries to facilitate the evacuation of Indian students and nationals stranded in Ukraine.

Neighbouring countries have been asked to send their officers to border areas to facilitate entry of Indian nationals. We have asked some officers to go to border areas to set up makeshift facilitation centres,” the Foreign Secretary said.
