SC Verdict Reflects Majoritarian Views, Ignites Nationwide Celebration: A Dark Day for J&K: Iltija Mufti

Iltija Mufti, the media advisor and daughter of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said SC Verdict Reflects Majoritarian Views, Ignites Nationwide Celebration: A Dark Day for J&K.

No surprises. SC judgement panders to the majoritarian sentiment instead of upholding the Constitution. The disconnect is evident from how a black day for people of J&K is being celebrated across the nation. Sheer schadenfreude: Iltija Mufti tweets on SC’s Article 370 verdict.

Notably, the Supreme Court upheld the President’s order allowing the Union to amend Article 370 without the recommendation of the Constituent Assembly and stated that the state was not needed to be consulted in this matter.

Delivering the landmark judgement, the 5-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud held that exercise of presidential power to issue constitutional order abrogating Article 370 of Constitution as valid.
