Digital Policing: First e-FIR, via WhatsApp, Registered in Rajouri

Srinagar, Sep 06 (KB): Srinagar Police acted against the family members of a notorious criminal, Noor Mohammad Bhat of Kondenpeth Nigeen, for raising a ruckus at the Police Station Nigeen and spreading false propaganda on social media.

The family shared videos in order to mislead the public over Bhat’s detention. Notorious criminal Bhat is infamous for usury, extortion, and kidnapping.

He has been a grievous threat to public safety for years. Several FIRs were lodged against him by the public, after which he was detained under the Public Safety Act recently.

Police also condemned this act of his family, mentioning that the videos were part of misinformation in an attempt to save Bhat, whose crimes have caused heavy losses in the community.

The police warned the public not to believe such fake stories and said they remain committed toward maintaining law and order.

Further legal action may be considered against the misinformation spreaders.—(KB)
