Tangmarg Incident Was Just Road Rage, No Misconduct Involved: Police

Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that there was no No illegal, immoral or unethical incident involving the males and females at Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that today around 1345 hrs, an XUV-300 vehicle bearing HR number plate with its 5 occupants (3 males from Haryana and 2 females from South Kashmir) was attacked by a few miscreants in jurisdiction of Police Station Tangmarg. The police party which rushed to the spot for rescue was also assaulted with one Head Constable sustaining injury on head. Many locals in the area also rushed in to help the police in rescuing the 5 persons being assaulted. FIR in this regard has been registered in PS Tangmarg. The assailants are being identified and will be held accountable before law.

According to police spokesman, as per preliminary investigation, there had been a road rage incident in Srinagar and a few vehicles had been trailing the XUV-300 vehicles from Srinagar. When the trailing vehicles caught up with XUV-300 in Tangmarg, persons from the trailing vehicles came out and assaulted the 5 occupants. No illegal, immoral or unethical incident involving the males and females in the vehicles has come to light.

It has been noted that rumours and misinformation regarding the incident are being circulated on social media with the intention of causing unrest. J&K Police has taken note of this and has begun profiling the individuals who are trying to spread fake discourse with the aim of disrupting peace and order. Legal action shall be take against the individuals indulging in spreading fake news regarding the matter, he said.

J&K Police also lauds efforts of the good samaritans of Tangmarg who rushed in to assist police in controlling the situation, reads the statement.(GNS)
