Budgam, April 4, KNT: A
non-functional hospital building has become a nuisance for the people of Hazarpora Aripanthan villagers here in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The hospital building has become a favorite spot for drunkards and drug addicts.
Locals told news agency Kashmir News Trust that they donated land in 2009 for the construction of the Primary Health Centre at Hazarpora village.
They said the PHC building is ready but the Directorate of Health Services paid no attention to make the Centre functional.
“Officials had assured us PHC will become functional, but till date, the building is locked now it has become a favourite spot for the drunkards, gamblers and drug addicts. Everywhere you will see cigarette packets, liquor bottles, beer bottles, codeine phosphate bottles lying around,” they said.
The locals appealed to the Directorate of Health Service to dismantle the building as they don’t want drug addicts misusing the premises in the auspicious month of the Ramadhan.
Locals said that over 4,000 people will be benefitted if this PHC is made functional. “We shift sick to Magam or Beerwah hospitals which are far away from this place,” they said.
Pertinently, there is another hospital building that the Directorate of Health Services abandoned after the completion at Gundipora in Beerwah Tehsil. Locals also demand the demolition of that building as that too has become a favourite spot for gamblers and drug addicts. (KNT)
