A seminar was held at the Taj Vivanta Hotel in Srinagar today on the subject of Polycystic Ovarian Disease, a common disease amongst women. The Seminar was held under the aegis of the PCOS Society of India and was titled, ‘E3 Seminars, Evidence, Experience, and Excellence.’
PCOD, also called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a disease which causes disorders of sugar metabolism, skin diseases, and difficulties in getting pregnant. Many experts attended and spoke at the Seminar, including Dr Duru Shah, founder and President of the PCOS Society of India, Prof Abdul Hamid Zargar, former Director of SKIMS, Soura, Dr Imran Majeed, senior Dermatologist and Director of Cutis Institute of Dermatology, Srinagar, among others.
Attendees also included Gynaecologists from Academic Departments of Medical Colleges of Srinagar and other doctors.
The Seminar highlighted the need for a multi-disciplinary approach for the treatment of PCOS which includes Gynaecologists, Endocrinologists, and Dermatologists. The attendees also highlighted the increasing incidence of PCOS in women, and the influence of genetics and lifestyle on the severity of the disease.
The panelists recommended greater awareness, especially among younger women, so that they can get treated earlier, which would make life better and also increase in the chances of pregnancy in future.
The conference closed with a vote of Thanks by Dr Sabahat Rasool, member of the PCOS and convenor for the Seminar.
