Lights installed, cordon layers tightened, say officials
Jehangeer Ganai
Shopian, Jan 26 (KNO): An encounter is underway between militants and security forces at Nowgam area of southern district of Shopian in which three soldiers were injured, officials said Wednesday.
An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in Nowgam area of Shopian.
“As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight,” he said. An official said that at least three soldiers received injuries in the heavy exchange of firing.
Meanwhile, officials said high-beam lights have been installed in the area and the cordon layers have been further tightened to ensure that militants don’t flee. “It seems that operation may last till tomorrow morning as it is complete dark,” they said—(KNO)
