Many Homes Without Electricity As 15 Transfers Lie Defunct In Poonch

Poonch, Jan 28 : Many homes are without power in this district as 15 transformers are lying defunct in three tehsils of this mountainous district.
People in Balakote, Mendhar and Mankote alleged that the Power Development Department was not doing enough to repair the transformers.
The people said that they are facing tremendous problems in absence of the electricity. “Ironically we receive power bills without fail,” they said and urged the authorities to look into the issue.
There is no workshop to repair the transformers in Mendhar which causes long delays in mending the transformers every time a snag develops in the transfer. “For a long time now there is no electricity in our village.
In this day and age, life is directly dependent on electricity. Our phones are not working and as such we cannot call our family members or friends living outside. Our businesses are hit while the student community suffers the most,” they said.
In-charge AEE PDD Mendhar Maqbool Ahmad admitted that 15 transformers are out of order. However, he said that efforts are underway to repair them. (GNS)
