J&K Police to restore security cover for Mirwaiz Umar Farooq After Delhi Visit
Srinagar, Feb 7 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Police is considering to restore the security cover for Mirwaiz Umar Farooq following his recent engagements in New Delhi, including discussions with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 , meeting with prominent civil society members and religious leaders including AIMUM Chief Asad ud Din Owasi, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mehmood Madni, Delhi Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmad Bukhari, Ameer of the Tablighi Jamaat Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, and Mufti Mukarram Ahmed of the Fatehpuri Masjid and an outreach to migrant Kashmiri Pandits
According to official sources, Mirwaiz’s two-week visit to Delhi sparked speculations from various quarters raising concerns about his security
Authorities have taken note of online threats directed at him after these interactions, particularly his outreach to the Kashmiri Pandit
Based on this assessment, the police have decided to reinstate his security cover which was withdrawn in 2019 .(KNS)
