Srinagar, Dec 20, KNT: Reacting sharply over the reports that Delimitation Commission has proposed six additional assembly seats for Jammu and only one for Kashmir, National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party have said that the proposal is unacceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Outrightly rejecting the proposal, PDP Spokesperson Suhail Bukhari said that apprehensions of PDP about the motive and intentions of the Commission have turned correct as it has been proved now that this Commission was created at the behest of BJP to suit their political agenda.
“PDP was right from day one saying that Delimitation Commission will be biased and will divide people on the basis of caste, community and religion. How come it is possible Kashmir which is both geographical and population wise larger than Jammu will get only one seat. It simply means that it is the handiwork of present BJP Government as it will suit their agenda and political ambitions. We have already rejected this Commission and now we reject its proposal,” Bukhari said.
Pertinently, there are reports that Delimitation Commission in its Draft has proposed six additional assembly seats for Jammu and one for Kashmir Valley. Besides, the Commission has also proposed nine seats for Schedule Tribes and seven seats for Schedule Casts.
The meeting of the Commission was held in New Delhi today in which National Conference Parliament members were also present.
Talking to Kashmir News Trust about the development, NC Parliament Member, Hasnain Masoodi said that the proposal of the Commission is unacceptable and they will oppose it vehemently.
The commission has asked its associate members to submit their suggestions by Dec 31, 2021.
Meanwhile, Jammu Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone castigated National Conference for participating the meeting of Delimitation Commission. He said some people have self-respect. Apni Party President Syed Altaf Bukhari also said that PAGD is befooling people. “How come Mehbooba Mufti allowed PAGD president to be part of Delimitation Commission meeting?, Bukhari questioned.
Pertinently, National Conference earlier had said that it will not participate in any meeting of the Delimitation Commission. (KNT)
