Sonam Lotus Transferred to Leh, Dr. Mukhtar to Head MeT Centre Srinagar Srinagar, Oct 29 (KB): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has been transferred, Sh. Sonam Lotus, Scientist-E, to Leh as the Head of MeT Centre Leh, as this change comes as part of a recent order issued by the Office of the Director General of Meteorology, a copy of which has been acquired by Kashmir Bulletin. The order further dictates that Sh. Sonam Lotus is to assume his new role as Head of MeT Centre Leh immediately and is relieved of his duties as the Head of MeT Centre Srinagar, a position he had been holding until now, while this transfer will remain in effect until further orders from the authorities. Simultaneously, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Scientist-D, has been appointed to take on the responsibilities of Head of MeT Centre Srinagar with immediate effect until further orders. Soldiers still sacrificing lives in Jammu and Kashmir, proves Congress’ opposition to Article 370 correct: Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury - Kashmir Mirror New Delhi: At the special session of Parliament on Monday, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury hit out at the central government over the violence in Manipur and the loss of Army officers in Jammu and Kashmir. Recalling Congress’ opposition to the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, he stated that soldiers are still sacrificing their lives in Jammu and Kashmir, which proves that their opposition was correct. The Congress MP also noted that the Opposition parties have “no rights to oppose anything anymore”. Stating that one side Jammu and Kashmir is “burning”, and on the other, Manipur, Chowdhury said this “means a lot more needs to be done” when it comes to the security situation in the country. “Earlier, when soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty we observed silence, this doesn’t happen now,” Chowdhury added. During his address, he also recalled Nehru’s contribution to the evolution of parliamentary democracy in the country, noting that the leader was “tireless in listening to the voice of the Opposition and never mocked or deflected when answering questions.” “Pandit Nehru had said that Parliamentary democracy demands many virtues, it demands ability, devotion to work, and self-discipline. Even the Speaker bell would ring for Jawaharlal Nehru when he exceeded his time limit while making speeches in the Parliament, this shows that no one is beyond Parliament’s derogative, that was Nehru’s contribution to the development of Parliamentary democracy in India,” the Congress MP added. Addressing the MPs in Lok Sabha, he also said that MPs are not allowed to participate in Zero Hour or Question Hour. Chowdhury said that the Opposition wanted the sanctity of the Parliament to continue. The Congress MP also said, “I don’t understand where 75 years of Amrit Kaal have come from”. He spoke right after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the special session of Parliament, where he talked about the significant historical events that took place in the old Parliament building in the last 75 years. The House proceedings will move to the New Parliament building on Tuesday (September 19), and the discussion on the journey of 75 years of the old Parliament is likely to be the last one in the old premises. *Anantnag encounter Day 2— Army presses in new generation weapons, devices to track down terrorists* *Operation put on halt due to darkness, say Officials; Drones, Herons, used to locate terrorists, won’t spare them: Army, 48 including 10 local terrorists killed this year in J&K, Official data* Jahangeer Ganaie Anantnag, Sep 14 (KNO): Day after the killing of an army colonel, major and a police officer, the exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists continued for second straight day in Gadool forest area of Kokernag hamlet in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Thursday with army pressing in new generation weapons and devices to track down the terrorists. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that intermittent exchange of fire between forces and the hiding terrorists remained on throughout the day as the operation was put on a halt given darkness. “There is no confirmation whether any terrorist has been killed so far given the tough terrain and forest area,” the official said. “Given dark, high beam lights have been installed and all the layers of cordon have been tightened to ensure terrorists don’t flee.” However, Police said that forces have encircled two Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists including Uzair Khan a local militant at Gadool area of Kokernag. On Wednesday, a colonel, major and a dysp of J&K police were killed in the first assault by the terrorists. "In solemn tribute to the unwavering valor of Col Manpreet Singh,Major Ashish Dhonak &DSP Humayun Bhat, who laid down their lives leading from the front during this ongoing operation. Our forces persist with unwavering resolve as they encircle 2 LET terrorists including Uzair Khan," Police said in a post on 'X', formerly known as Twitter. Meanwhile, defence sources told KNO that GoC 15 Corps and GoC Victor Force were closely monitoring the operations. Army said that the “terrorists will not be spared and all new generation weapons and devices are being used to locate hiding terrorists.” They said that drones including herons have been pressed into action to find and neutralize the hiding terrorists. Notably, the Kokernag encounter is the biggest since August 5 this year in South Kashmir when three soldiers of army’s 34 RR were killed in Halan Manzgam forest area of Kulgam district. On March 30, 2020, five security personnel-including a Colonel, a Major and a sub-inspector were killed in an 18-hour long encounter at north Kashmir’s Handwara. This year so far, 48 militants have been killed in J&K and among them 38 were foreigners and 10 were locals. Officials said that around 20 security forces were killed this year in terrorist attacks and encounters. Five soldiers were killed and another injured in a major militant attack in the Pir Panjal valley’s Poonch district in the Jammu province on 20 April this year. Five soldiers were killed and another was injured in a gunfight with militants in the thick jungles of the Rajouri-Poonch sector of the Jammu division on 05 May this year. During the 13-day period, the special prayers were held throughout the day followed by nightlong prayers on Sunday. Thousands of worshippers from across the valley gathered at the shrine yesterday to participate in the nightlong prayers in honor of today's annual Urs at Hazrat Sultan Ul Arifeen Makhdoom Sahab Shrine (RA) in Srinagar.
