Traffic Police City Srinagar on Saturday issued an advisory about the use of High Beam Light and termed it an offence under Motor Vehicles Act, 122/177, S. 52r/w S. 39/192, asking violators to refrain from using it as it will invite punishment.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic Srinagar in a communiqué stated that use of High Beam Light is an offence under Motor Vehicle Act, 122/177, S.52r/w S. 39/192 and invites punishment.
High Beam Light blinds the person for a moment and is enough to cause a fatal accident. It is an offence under the law and will invite strict punishment,” he said.
He added that it has been observed that motorists alter the constitution of the vehicle by fitting LED light projectors.
Traffic Police City Srinagar advised violators that the beam of light emitted therefrom is permanently deflected downwards to such an extent that it is at all times incapable of dazzling any person standing on the same horizontal plane as the vehicle at a greater distance than 7.5 meters from the lamp, and whose eye level is not less than one meter above that plane.
They said that it is deflected downwards or both downwards and to the left by the driver in the circumstances aforesaid, or can be extinguished by the operation of a device which at the same time causes a beam of light to be emitted from the lamp which complies with the clause.
They further added that it can be extinguished by the operation of a device which at the same time either deflects the beam of light from another lamp downwards or both downwards and the left in such a manner to render it incapable of dazzling any such person in the circumstances aforesaid, or brings into or leaves in operation a lamp or lamps which complies or comply with clause (a).
The officials added that a special drive has already been launched by Traffic Police City Srinagar in this regard to curb the violations.
