Unani Medical College Ganderbal students aghast at lack of facilities

Actively working to address heating arrangements, sanitation facilities, Says Officials

Srinagar, Dec 22 (KNO): Students and staff at the Unani Medical College and Associated Hospital in Nawabagh, Ganderbal have expressed resentment against the authorities over “inadequate facilities” at the medical college.

Students, speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), voiced their disappointment, citing issues such as the non-functional hostel and numerous other concerns that need immediate attention for their welfare.

Among the primary concerns mentioned by the students are sanitation, heating arrangements and the overall hostel conditions.

The students claimed that the authorities have only made false assurances regarding the provision of necessary facilities. They have appealed to the Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department to investigate the matter and take appropriate steps.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, officials within the college acknowledged the existence of multiple issues that require resolution. These issues include electricity problems, sanitation, heating arrangements, canteen services, hostel conditions, and insufficient staff, including chowkidars.

They said that HDF funds, along with student fees amounting to crores of rupees, are available, but a minimal amount is being utilised for the college’s development.

A health official told KNO that the government is actively working to address heating arrangements and sanitation facilities. He assured that both facilities would be made available within the next week.

“Efforts are underway to expedite all necessary work and provide comprehensive facilities to students and staff,” he said.

When asked about the funds, he directed inquiries to the accounts department of GMC Srinagar, saying there is no accounts officer at the college, about which the government has been already informed—(KNO)
