Srinagar, Jan 2: Minimum temperatures dropped below freezing across Kashmir valley and Ladakh region today, while Jammu region experienced comparatively warmer night temperatures.
In the Kashmir valley, Pahalgam was the coldest at -6.2°C. Other main stations like Srinagar, Qazigund, Kupwara, Kokernag, Anantnag, Pulwama, Baramulla and Shopian recorded below freezing minimums between -2.7°C and -6.7°C. Tourist resort Gulmarg saw a low of -4°C.
In the Jammu division, barring Bhaderwah at 0.4°C all other stations recorded above freezing minimum temperatures. Jammu city saw a minimum temperature of 7.7°C.
Ladakh continued to freeze with Leh recording a minimum of -10.9°C. Kargil and Drass were equally cold at -9.9°C and -13.7°C respectively.
The Met office has forecast the cold wave to continue in Kashmir and Ladakh over the next few days with possibility of light snow at isolated places. Meanwhile, no major change in minimum temperatures is expected in Jammu in the coming week.
