MeT Forecasts Extended Wet Spell in J&K
Srinagar, Feb 27 (KB): Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Thursday forecasted an extended wet spell in Jammu and Kashmir, amid ongoing widespread rains and snow.
The MeT office, as per news agency Kashmir Bulletin, said that most of J&K parts saw light to moderate rains and snow, with Banihal in particular witnessing intense snowfall, in last twenty four hours.
Forecasting the continuity in the inclement and wet weather conditions, the MeT said that persistent cloudy skies with light to moderate rain/snow is expected in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions today upto tomorrow afternoon.
Similarly for March 1-2, the weather will remain cloudy with isolated to scattered light rain and snow.
An increased activity, with light to moderate precipitation is expected on March 3, following which a dry spell from March 4 up to March 8 is expected in Jammu and Kashmir.
The weather department has in the meantime sounded advisories for the public during the period of expected precipitation, saying that, key routes, including Sadhna Pass, Razdhan Pass, Mughal Road, Zojila-Sonamarg-Gumri axis, and Sinthan Pass, may face temporary closures due to snow accumulation or landslides. “Commuters are urged to monitor traffic advisories and avoid non-essential travel.”
“Travel plans should align with real-time updates from local administrations.”
The department has asked the farmers to put on hold the irrigation and fieldwork until improvement in weather conditions.
Regarding landslide risks, the department cautioned that the hilly and landslide-prone areas may experience mudslides or shooting stones. (KB)
