Noble Step taken by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Ministry of Skill Development and entrepreneurship (MDSE) Government of India to make Skill India
To strengthen the initiative of the ‘Skill India Mission’, National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and to promote Vocational and Hands on Training Programs, IGNOU & MSDE Inaugurated the IGNOU-MSDE Extension Centres in 32 National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) to impart Skill based Education and Training under academic Leadership of IGNOU.
World’s Largest Open University, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Ministry of Skill Development and entrepreneurship (MDSE) Government of India formally inaugurated the IGNOU-MDSE Extension Centres of 32 National Skill Training Institutes across the nation. Secretary of Ministry of Skill Development and entrepreneurship (MDSE) Government of India Rajesh Aggrawal (IAS) Vice Chancellor of IGNOU Professor Naegshwar Rao inaugurated IGNOU MSDE extension centres on 27th January 2022 through virtual mode in the presence of 56 IGNOU Regional Directors and 32 National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs). Directors across the nation, in view of MOU signed between Ministry of Skill Development and entrepreneurship (MDSE) Government of India with IGNOU for the linking of vocational education and training to higher education for trainees attached to 32 National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs), ITIs, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKK) and Jan Shikshan (JSS) for their mobility. Under this project (NSTIs 32), 3000 ITIs, 500 (PMKK) and nearly 300 Jan Shikshan (JSS) will be associated with IGNOU as (IGNOU-MSDE) Extension Centres for Registration Centres, Examinations Centres and work Centres for hands on training. Through this initiative, students will get an opportunity to join the three years Degree Programme of IGNOU and shall have easy access to attain higher education.
Under the jurisdiction of Regional Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (RDSDE), Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh fall 57 institutions of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Among 57, 28 falls in Kashmir valley, 27 Jammu and 2 Ladakh. This MOU is initially signed for the period of 10 years subject to mutual understanding and agreement. This MoU is in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goal 4.4 and the National Education Policy 2022 (NEP) for increasing Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education, including vocational education to 50 percent by 2035.
IGNOU, Regional Director, Srinagar joined this virtual cum inauguration programme of IGNOU-MSDE organised by Indira Gandhi National University (IGNOU) New Delhi with the collaboration of Ministry of Skill Development and entrepreneurship (MDSE), Government of India. Dr. Kamlesh Meena participated in the virtual inauguration of the extension center of Regional Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (RDSDE), Jammu as a representative of IGNOU, Regional Centre, Srinagar Kashmir Valley as a Regional Director of this region.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) expressed his happiness by saying this initiative will open easy access for higher education for the enrolled students of 32 National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) across the nation and to fulfil the mandate of Nation Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as well as flagship programme “Skill India Mission”, Government of India. Director, Regional Services Division, IGNOU Dr Srikant Mahapatra moderated the function and he fully assured that all IGNOU Regional Centres across the country will dedicatedly stand firm to take all necessary steps for strengthening the IGNOU MSDE Extension Centres to fulfil the mandate of IGNOU and MSDE.
Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and entrepreneurship (MDSE), Government of India, Rajesh Aggarwal, IAS extended his willing to provide full cooperation and support to implement this proposed scheme of MSDE signed with Indira Gandhi National Open University and Rajesh Agarwal said this is the desired of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to empower the youth through vocational, Skill Development and hands on training programme through 32 National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs), ITIs, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKK) and Jan Shikshan (JSS) across the country.
IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar participated in the virtual cum inauguration function along with the Principal, Dr Shaugufta Ara, Government polytechnic College for Women, Bemina along with her staff member. In the virtual interaction Mr Tariq Ahmed Bhat participated as the representative of Regional Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (RDSDE), Jammu. IGNOU Regional Director Dr Kamlesh Meena Said that very soon all 30 IGNOU-MSDE Extension Centers will be established as working centres for the purpose and objectives of this initiative. This step will help to cover the uncovered areas of Kashmir valley and Ladakh Union territory by providing the opportunity of Vocational, Skill Development and Training programs through IGNOU by these established Extension Centres. These IGNOU MSDE Extension Centres will be established in all Government Industrial Training Institutes and Polytechnic Colleges of Kashmir Valley including Ladakh. The Same process of Establishment of IGNOU MSDE Extension Centres will be in the Industrial Training Institutes and Polytechnic Colleges of Jammu Region by IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu.
