PESHAWAR: Local clerics in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan District have claimed sighting of Shawwal moon, announced to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr tomorrow.
Mohsin Dawar, a member of the National Assembly from North Waziristan, tweeted that 20 people in the Haider khel area of North Waziristan had claimed to sight Shawwal moon.
“As we celebrate Eid tomorrow, our thoughts and prayers will be with the families of missing persons, of those who’ve been killed extra-judicially and by terrorists and we will be praying for peace in the region,” he added.
Earlier, it was reported that in an attempt to ensure that Eidul Fitr is celebrated the same day across the country this year, Ruet-i-Hilal Committee members have started approaching and persuading the clerics who had publicly opposed the announcement related to Shawwal moon sighting by the national body in the past.

“We are engaged with clerics of all schools of thought and various groups, involving them in the process,” the Ruet-i-Hilal committee chairman said, recalling that the Qasim Khan mosque management had observed Ramazan with the rest of the nation.
“I am sure that they will respect decision of the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee over Shawwal moon too,” he added.
