Srinagar, Aug 28 (KB): As the wake of heavy rains and the orange alert thus received from the India Meteorological Department, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gulmarg has issued an important advisory to the residents of Gulmarg, Tangmarg, and other adjoining areas.
“Due to an intense western disturbance, the IMD has issued a red-alert warning of heavy rainfall and snowfall for Jammu and Kashmir. People are advised not to undertake any unnecessary travel during this period and listen to official weather reports and news on time,” reads an advisory which lies with the news agency—Kashmir Bulletin (KB).
It further reads, Key Advisory Points included, do not venture out in heavy rains, in case you are already out. Keep yourself updated with the weather situation by listening to the latest updates from time to time by local news, radio, or alerts from the IMD. Prepare emergency supplies such as food, water, and medications. The roads are likely to be flooded or congested, so one should avoid traveling in that case.
Also, exercise extreme caution while driving and follow traffic updates. The people should be prepared for power cuts by charging phones, flashlights, and note down important numbers of emergencies. The tourists and locals must check the status before approaching any water body. Farmers shall plan and take steps for dewatering in fields and orchards to avoid waterlogging.
