Govt orders for closure of Hotel Oscean Grand in Jammu
Jammu, Dec 22 (KS):- District Administration Jammu has ordered for the closure of Hotel Oscean Grand in Jewel Chowk Jammu on Friday.
“Whereas, vide letter no. CRB/2023/DM/100022-25/DPOJ dated 20.12.2023, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu communicated that during the intervening night of 16th and 17th December 2023, a hotel namely Oscean Grand, Jewel Chowk, Jammu was raided wherein, 09 persons including the manager of the hotel were involved in gambling activities; and subsequently FIR No. 191/2023 u/s 3/4 gambling Act 1867 was registered in the matter ;and the public Gambling Act provides that any gambling which involves the act of putting money or betting for money or any other equivalent Act, as illegal; the Public Gambling Act 1867 under section 3 & 4 prohibits the persons owning or keeping or having a charge of a gaming house or being involved in a gaming house and is liable for penalty”, reads the order issued by ADC Jammu a copy of which lies with News Agency Kashmir Scroll.
“Whereas, it is evident that violations have been committed and undersigned is convinced that any kind of commercial activity in the said hotel is detrimental to larger public interest and needs to be prohibited. Therefore, in view of the aforementioned facts, it is hereby ordered that the Hotel Oscean Grand, Jewel Chowk shall cease to run any kind of commercial activity and is closed forthwith. Further, Tourism Department, Jammu shall immediately initiate necessary process for the cancellation of the registration of the hotel under relevant law & rules.” Reads the order.
“Tehsildar, Jammu Khas is directed to execute the closure/sealing of the Hotel Oscean Grand, Jewel Chowk immediately.” It reads further. (KS)
