Gurez School faces Lecturer shortage; Students, Parents aghast

Bandipora, Nov 29 (KNO): The Government Higher Secondary School Izmarg in Gurez area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district is facing acute shortage of lecturers as several posts are lying vacant for the last several months, students complained here on Wednesday.

According to details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), states that out of the 11 sanctioned lecturer positions, only two are currently filled. The remaining positions have been vacant for several months following transfers made by the education department.

The faculty currently available only covers subjects such as economics and education. However, vacant positions persist for subjects including English, Botany, Chemistry, and Physics, among others.

Students informed KNO that despite transfers made by the education department months ago, no replacements were arranged for the relocated lecturers, compromising the quality of education for border residents.

“For several months, we have reached out to every official, but no action has been taken,” they said, adding that the scarcity of lecturers has not only disrupted the quality of education within the institution but has also impeded the seamless operation of both academic and official tasks.

Expressing concerns about the issue, parents said that the administration should promptly fill these vacant posts to enhance the educational opportunities for remote students.

Numerous parents pointed out the absence of subject-specific teachers in several schools, expressing the challenges their children enrolled in these schools are encountering.

Mushtaq Ahmad, a parent, stated that due to these difficulties, many parents have opted to enroll their children in private schools.

They appeal to the Director of School Education, Kashmir, to address this genuine issue promptly and instruct the relevant authorities to resolve it at the earliest.

Meanwhile, an official acknowledged the shortage of staff at the school and said that internal assessments are currently being conducted until the vacant positions are filled—(KNO)
