J&K Govt to Unlock Snow-Bound areas for Winter Tourism

Srinagar, Nov 29 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir administration, buoyed by a robust influx of tourists during the ongoing autumn season, has announced plans to unveil previously inaccessible snow-covered areas for visitors in this winter season.

A senior official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that tourists will be encouraged to explore the enchanting landscapes of snow-bound destinations, including Gurez, Lolab, Bangus and other areas of north Kashmir near the Line of Control.

He said that the winter destinations in the Kashmir Valley will not only include established favorites but also newly added tourist spots. These areas, such as Gurez and other areas are being promoted as new skiing hotspots for adventurous travelers.

The official said that these locations are poised to become all-season tourist destinations, ensuring the availability of all facilities throughout the winter months.

“This year, the administration is considering a shift in focus towards snow-bound areas. While places like Gulmarg and Pahalgam are already renowned, the plan is to redirect attention to other areas, including border regions, with the aim of putting these lesser-explored destinations on the tourism map. Significant efforts are underway to achieve this goal,” the official said.

“The official mentioned that, in to last year, numerous winter carnivals were organized in various locations such as Bangus, Athwatoo, and Sarunder, achieving notable success. However, this year anticipates an even more extensive lineup, with the government actively coordinating efforts,” the official stated.

He further added that helicopter services will be extended to areas like Gurez during winter months, and the Border Roads Organization (BRO) responsible for road maintenance in border areas is ensuring swift road upkeep in the shortest possible time—(KNO)
