Srinagar, Aug 08 (KB): The rainfall amounts during the last 24 hours for the state of Jammu and Kashmir have been 159.2 mm at Jammu Airport, 100.4 mm in Jammu city, 91.5 mm in Chahta Jammu, and 41 mm in Samba. And so, it is against this backdrop of deluge that a series of weather forecasts and advisories have been issued from the Meteorological Centre Srinagar.
The latest forecast predicts a spell of rain and thundershowers at different areas, at frequent intervals, on August 8-9; scattered light to moderate rain during late night and early morning hours. The weather pattern is going to continue with intermittent rain and thundershowers on August 10-11, especially in Kashmir Division and at many places of Jammu Division.
The same weather conditions will continue between August 12 and 14 with passing spells of rain and thundershowers in the day and more extended rain at late night and early morning hours. Early morning and late night rain was predicted over isolated places in Jammu Division and isolated light rain/thundershowers over Kashmir Division on August 15.
The MET Centre Srinagar has issued a severe weather advisory due to the intense showers expected over the next few days. The vulnerable areas are prone to flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones. Isolated locations in Jammu Division have been warned of heavy rainfall on August 10 and 11.
In view of the continuing heavy rainfall, people are advised to keep their vigil up and be prepared for any instance of flooding and landslides. Authorities are monitoring the situation, and further updates are likely to follow.
This severe weather event shows the persistence of challenges which have been hitting Jammu and Kashmir, pointing out the need for vigilance and preparedness against unpredictable and intense weather conditions.— (KB)
