MeT Forecasts 5-Day Major Wet Spell in J&K from Feb 25 Onwards

Srinagar, Feb 24 (KB): Meteorological Department here has predicted a significant wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir, with widespread rain and snowfall expected between February 25 and March 1.
Talking to news agency Kashmir Bulletin, Director MeT Mukhtar Ahmad, said that a strong Western Disturbance is set to hit the region on the evening of February 25, bringing heavy rainfall and snowfall. The impact, he said, will be most intense between February 25 and 26, with heavy to very heavy snowfall forecasted for isolated mountainous regions on February 27 and 28. “Moderate snowfall is also expected in the plains,” the official said.
In Jammu, he said that a medium-range rainfall is predicted, with the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal range however likely to experience heavy spells. met
Advising the people particularly those in avalanche-prone areas, to exercise caution, the official further said that key mountain passes, including Sadhna Pass, Razdan Pass, Sinthan Top, Mughal Road, and the Zojila Axis, may witness disruptions in surface transportation due to heavy snowfall and possible avalanches.
“The weather system is likely to prevail mainly upto February 28, but it may possibly spillover to March 1,” added the official. (KB)
