The National Medical Commission has come up the updated syllabus for NEET UG 2024, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. Those planning to take the exam can access the syllabus on the official NTA website, nta.ac.in.

The Under Graduate Medical Education Board, operating under the National Medical Commission, has finalized the syllabus for NEET UG 2024. It’s now available on the NMC’s website, offering guidance to the wider public.

According to the announcement, “The stakeholders can refer to the updated syllabus for NEET UG 2024 for the preparation of the study material and for preparation of the NEET UG examination for the academic session 2024-25.”

Aspirants meeting specific criteria outlined by NEET and completing the application process within the designated timeline will qualify to take this undergraduate medical entrance test. Candidates aiming to pursue medicine abroad yet return to India for practice must also clear NEET. The eligibility criteria for NEET UG 2024 are detailed below.

Minimum Age: Candidates should have turned 17 by December 31 of the admission year.

Citizenship: Indian citizens, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and foreign nationals can sit for the exam.

Marks
: The class 12 percentage criteria for NEET 2024 varies by category – UR: 50%, OBC/SC/ST: 40%, PWD: 40%.

Other Requirements
: Applicants must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects from a recognized board. Candidates currently in Class 12 or equivalent are also eligible to apply for NEET.

NEET 2024 exam will be conducted on May 5, 2024, by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NEET 2024 syllabus by NTA has been released on November 22, 2023, on the official website. The NEET 2024 syllabus PDF is the same as that released by NMC earlier. NTA has not announced any other information regarding the NEET 2024 exam apart from the syllabus PDF.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024

The NEET 2024 eligibility criteria have undergone changes. Candidates who have studied, or studying Biology/Biotechnology as additional subjects along with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English, will also be eligible to appear for the exam. As per the official notice released by NMC, the eligibility criteria of NEET 2024 is stated as, “Candidates who have passed 10+2 or its equivalent with the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology & English shall be eligible for appearing in NEET-UG.”

NMC has also stated that candidates who were debarred from taking the NEET exam in the past due to these factors will be allowed to appear for NEET UG 2024. “The present decision shall be applicable retrospectively also on candidates whose applications for grant of Eligibility Certificate have been rejected on the grounds contemplated in the present public notice. However, for the purpose of appearing in NEET-UG, candidates who become eligible after the date of the present public notice, shall be permitted to appear in NEET-UG-2024,” mentions NMC.

There will not be any upper age limit for applicants, but there is a lower age limit of 17 years as of December 31 of the year of admission. Let us take a look at the NEET eligibility criteria for 2024. It is expected that the criteria will remain same for this year.

Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India. Non-resident Indians (NRI) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are also eligible to appear for NEET.

Age Limit: Candidates must have attained the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will attain the same by December 31, 2024. Accordingly, the minimum date of birth of candidates should be December 31, 2007. There is no upper age limit for NEET.
