Dysfunctional CT-Scan machine at GMC Handwara hits healthcare
Kupwara, Jan 30: The mechanical failure of the CT-scan machine at Associated District Hospital, Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara for the last twelve days has severely affected patient care, with the result patients are left with no choice other than moving to private clinics.
The residents have expressed strong resentment against authorities for failing to repair the machine even after ten days. “The CT scan machine often faces glitches forcing patients to look for other alternatives. The existing machine happens to be an old one and often develops technical snags. I am unable to figure out why authorities are not taking concrete steps to replace this old machine with a new one,” a local resident, Aadil Akbar told Greater Kashmir.
“After establishment of Government Medical College, we were hopeful of advanced medical facilities at Associated District Hospital GMC Handwara but nothing like that can be seen on ground,” voiced another local.
Handwara Traders Federation President, Ajaz Sofi expressed his disappointment over the situation, adding that “people from across the district including border areas visit Handwara Hospital for treatment but unfortunately they do not get proper facilities”. “If the CT-scan had gone out of order in any other District Hospital, it would have been repaired within a few days but I do not know why DH Handwara has been taken for granted by the higher authorities,” he added.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Associated District Hospital GMC Handwara, Dr Aijaz Bhat acknowledged the hardships being faced by the patients due to out-of-order CT-scan machine. He said that within a few days, the machine would be repaired.
