Srinagar, Dec 07 (KS): In a chilling turn of weather, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, faced the coldest night of the season, plummeting to a bone-chilling minus 2.6°C. This cold spell extended to other Kashmir regions, with Qazigund, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Kupwara recording their lowest temperatures as winter establishes its presence across the picturesque valley.
An official from MeT told news agency Kashmir Scroll that Srinagar recorded a notable drop, reaching a low of minus 2.6°C on the latest night, marking a stark contrast to the previous night’s minus 2°C.
The official said that Qazigund experienced a dip in temperatures, with the mercury settling at minus 2.2°C compared to the previous night’s minus 2.0°C. Pahalgam saw a drop to minus 4.9°C from the previous night’s minus 5.1°C, he said.
Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 1.4°C, down from minus 0.5°C, he said.
Kupwara witnessed a decline in temperatures, reaching a low of minus 3.1°C compared to the previous night’s minus 2.7°C, he said.
Gulmarg, however, reported a consistent low at minus 2.5°C, mirroring the temperatures from the previous night, which were at minus 2.2°C, he said.
Even Jammu experienced a slight decrease in temperatures, recording a minimum of 9.6°C compared to the previous night’s 9.0°C, he said.
Till 10th December, he said the weather will remain mainly dry. On 11th December, weather will remain generally cloudy, he said. (KS)
