Ganderbal, Aug 25: The sportspersons in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district here have demanded renovation of the Madre Meharban playground, which according to them lacks basic facilities and also the majority of lights installed are lying defunct.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the cricket and football players said that the lack of basic facilities deprive them from flourishing their talent.
Cricketers and footballers said that the callous attitude of the Sports Council towards this play ground has left it obsolete and has hampered the talented players to showcase their talent.
“Sports activities are badly affected here. Those who play in this play ground suffer grievous injuries mostly. Sports council is nowhere and the claims being made with regard to the funds allotted for the sports are proving futile on the ground,” a cricketer said.
They said 384 flood lights were installed in the Sports ground by Sports Council but unfortunately 100 lights have got damaged and that too without using them so far.
Locals said in 2018 and 2019, several football matches were played in this sports ground but unfortunately from the last three years no tournament was organized here due to which the players are suffering immensely.
Many promises were made to repair this ground in the past but nothing has been done so far. The local young talent appealed the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led administration to look into the matter—(KNO)
