Anantnag, Aug 13 (KB): A 14-year-old boy drowned in the River Jhelum near Donipora Sangam, Bijbehara, Anantnag, this afternoon, while a rescue operation to retrieve the body is underway, officials said.
Officials told the Kashmir Bulletin (KB) that a teenage boy drowned in the Jhelum near Sangam, Bijbehara, Anantnag this afternoon while he was bathing and relaxing.
They added that the teenager was later identified as Muneer-ul-Islam, (14), a resident of Tipu Mari, Assam.
Following the incident, a rescue operation was launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Anantnag at 5 PM and continued into the late evening.
“The team is working tirelessly to recover the body. The search continued until late evening but has now been halted due to poor visibility. We will resume the search tomorrow morning at around 6 AM,” said an official from SDRF.—(KB)
