Omar Abdullah Accuses BJP of Preparing to Scuttle Powers of Elected Government in the offing in J&K
Asks officers to resist any pressure to further disempower the incoming elected government
Srinagar, Oct 04 (KB): National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah has claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing for defeat in Jammu and Kashmir by allegedly planning to weaken the powers of the future elected government.
This information is coming to me from within the secretariat,” Omar Abdullah tweeted as per news agency Kashmir Bulletin, pointing out that Chief Secretary has been tasked with the alteration of the Transaction of Business Rules, thereby transferring certain powers from Chief Minister and an elected government to the LG.
“The BJP has clearly accepted defeat in J&K. Why else would the Chief secretary be assigned the duty to change transaction of business rules of the government to curtail the powers of the Chief minister / elected government and assign the same to the LG? This information has come to me from within the Secretariat. Officers would be well advised to resist any pressure to further disempower the incoming elected government,” Tweeted Omar as per KB
Since reorganization took place in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, the role of LG in the region has magnified significantly. Abdullah’s statements point toward a potential clash over the power balance between the LG and elected representatives once elections are held. (KB)
