Pulwama Police Entertains Complaint Received via WhatsApp, Registers First e-FIR
Srinagar, Mar 03 (KB): Jammu and Kashmir Police in Pulwama district registered its first e-FIR following a complaint received via online medium – WhatsApp.
“Marking a significant step towards digital policing, Police Station Litter under new criminal laws has registered its first-ever electronic First Information Report (e-FIR) following a complaint lodged via WhatsApp,” reads a statement issued to news agency Kashmir Bulletin.
The e-FIR, the statement reads, was filed by Firdous Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rasheed Bhat, a resident of Srinagar, owner of Bhat Agro Cardboard Factory. “He reported that unknown intruders had entered his factory, damaged CCTV cameras, and stolen the hard disk.”
“Taking cognizance of the complaint as per New Criminal Laws, a case vide FIR number 16/2025 was registered under the relevant sections of law at Litter Police Station, and further investigation is underway,” reads the statement.
“This initiative in line with the new criminal laws reflects Pulwama Police’s commitment to leveraging technology for swift and efficient grievance redressal while ensuring timely action against criminal activities. People without physically visiting a police station can report their grievances through digital platforms including WhatsApp & email,” concludes the statement. (KB)
