Srinagar, Mar 24 (KB): A two-day-long training workshop on ‘ANGA PRO 3D Bio-Printer’ concluded on Thursday at Mechanical Engineering Department, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar.
As per a statement issued to Kashmir Bulletin–(KB), the workshop was headed by Prof. Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, HOD, Mechanical Engineering Department, while Dr. M. Mursaleen was the coordinator of the two-day-long event.
The valedictory session of the workshop was presided over by the Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal was the chief guest on the occasion. While Dr. Sumant Bhutoria from ALFATEK system was the resource person for the workshop.
On the occasion, Prof. Sehgal spoke about the developing software technologies like ANGA PRO 3D Bio-Printer and congratulated HOD Mechanical Engineering Department Prof. Nazir Ahmad Sheikh and his entire team for organizing a successful workshop.
“We should not use any software as a black box and know what is happening inside, how they are selecting tools,” he said.
Prof. Sehgal said conducting workshops on relevant themes is the need of the hour. We will always act as a vibrant platform for students and would focus on emerging technologies, he said.
Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said both sessions of training workshop were an eye-opener for all participants. We will be organizing such workshops in the future also so that students can get benefited from these initiatives, he said.
Prof. Bukhari said 3D printing technologies are now making inroads into markets. Companies are now able to create large and small visual advertising products that are not just images on a wall but real 3D representations of their products. It is important for students to get trained in these fields, he said.
In his key lecture, Dr. Sumant Bhutoria said this operational training program can benefit many research scholars from the mechanical department and Institute who are working in biomedical application as well as various fields of engineering.
“3D Bio-printer can help in fabrication of Bone Scaffold, human skin, drugs carrier, membrane for wastewater treatment, etc., by using Bio-Ink in the field of Tissue engineering application, chemistry and chemical engineering etc,” he said.
Sumant is an entrepreneur working in the exciting field of 3D bio-printing, medical automation and other rapid prototyping technologies. In his previous corporate avataar, Sumant has worked in US, Europe, and Singapore in various engineering, management, and finance roles. In his last corporate engineering role in Virginia, USA, Sumant worked in product engineering at Micron Technologies, a $21 bn US manufacturer of DRAM and NAND Flash chips.
